CryptoPH Weekly News Recap: June 23 - 29, 2025

Bitget, Bybit, plus announcement of (possibly temporary) newsletter platform.

🌟 Updated Editor's Note

Good day. Last Thursday, Substack flagged a potential problem about our publication and that I should contact their Enforcement team for more information. I did but there was no reply yet. Until then, however, I won’t be able to publish the newsletter through Substack. So what can we do? Getting this out today is a top priority, that’s why you are receiving this today on another platform called Beehiiv.

Will update you as soon as we have a workaround or a resolution. In the meantime, feel free to share or subscribe to this newsletter because I was only able to upload all newsletter subscribers who have opened atleast one email in the last 30 days!

🌟 Supposed Editor's Note

Last week was full of real-world use cases, some grassroots education, and a big reminder from the SEC.

💡 In case you don’t know: The SEC Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) rules are expected to take effect on July 1st. (We have sent an inquiry to SEC regarding this.) We have an upcoming webcast for content creators this Tuesday which I’ll share later in this newsletter.

Let’s finally dive in.

🧠 Top Story This Week

💸 You can now use crypto to pay via QR Ph

Bitget (via Bitget Wallet) and Bybit Pay can now be used to pay for goods and services in the Philippines wherever QR Ph (the country’s national payment QR system) is accepted as mode of payment.

The fiat side appears to be handled by a third party. Also, it seems to be one way only (atleast for Bitget Web3 Wallet as we haven’t checked with the Bybit Pay). You cannot receive money to your wallet via this option.

🔍 This means it works with practically all merchants where online payment option is accepted.

💡 What’s interesting: What happened after we published the news: We received a bunch of comments and private messages asking about, such as how it became possible. It was a bit overwhelming because the press releases where we sourced the news did not go into those details.

So my request this time: If any of you wants to ask about it after this email, please direct your inquiries to both Bitget and Bybit.

🇵🇭 Government in Action

🏫 DICT Launches Blockchain Cert Program in Caraga

📍 Location: San Jose, Dinagat Islands

The press release from DICT Caraga is that its the first blockchain certification program for the country. Caraga is one of the regions in Southern Philippines.

📌 Powered by: DICT’s SPARK (formerly digitaljobsPH)
📅 May 27–31: Onsite & online hybrid
🧠 Covered: Blockchain infra, crypto basics, DeFi tools, and remote work careers

It was followed by a 15-day awareness campaign across the region.

🎯 Why it matters: We love blockchain stories outside the Metro cities like Manila, Cebu, and Davao. If the country truly wants to become the blockchain capital of Asia, it must make sure the entire country will be on the map.

🚀 Around the Country
