A Crypto PH Party List??

🌟 Editor's Note

For some weeks already, I have been informed that there are movements/initiatives to form a “Crypto Rights Party List.” The idea is to have representation in the Philippine Congress.

Last week, the group — IMPACT — set it in motion, asking the followers of their founders, one of them being Coach Miranda Miner, a prominent crypto trader and entrepreneur, to fill out a form expressing their support for the party list.

Over 500,000 views later across our platforms, it is clear the “having representation” is striking a nerve across the local crypto community. Perhaps they thought they are not being heard, perhaps the recent rules and regulations are too restrictive for them (both individuals and local crypto companies) to operate.

Whatever that is, it is also clear that, based on the responses on our posts, some 25% of the commenters are opposed to the idea. After all, crypto is not a “marginalized group” thing, which is the main purpose of the party list. In this newsletter, let’s briefly discuss the views.

💡 In case you don’t know: According to crypto thought leader Luis Buenaventura, this is the third time that the local crypto community considered forming a party list. Also, the advice they received back then is that it would involve around 50 to 100 million peso

Let’s finally dive in.

💡 Coach Miranda Miner’s Group Surveys Public Support for Crypto-Focused Party List

Prominent crypto educator and trader Arlone Paul Abello, known in the local crypto community as Coach Miranda Miner, is leading a survey to gauge public support for a potential Crypto Rights Party List, a political initiative meant to represent the Philippine crypto and blockchain community in Congress.

While Miranda Miner’s post mentioned "as we form [the] Crypto Rights Party List," Atty. Clarizel King, one of the co-founders of IMPACT clarified this is not yet a formal filing but an exploration of interest. She emphasized that the initiative will only proceed if there is organic community backing.

At the time we wrote the article, over 1,200 have signed up the form.

In a follow-up post, Coach Miranda Miner said:

🇵🇭 Opposition to Party List

🏫 Web3 Executive Calls For Formation of Innovation Advocacy Group

Christopher Star of emerging tech organization OpenVerse, is urging the formation of an innovation-focused advocacy group to address gaps in policymaking around emerging technologies, including crypto, in the Philippines. This is in response to calls for the formation of a crypto rights party list in the country.

In a Facebook post, Star emphasized that key national decisions on areas such as artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, and digital taxation are often made without input from the country’s innovators. He said that a dedicated advocacy group, distinct from political party lists, could provide the sustained, nonpartisan engagement needed to influence legislation and drive long-term tech reforms.

Accordingly, Star said the initiative is currently seeking experienced lawyers, public relations professionals, policy strategists, and innovation leaders from both public and private sectors.
