It was supposed to be a chill week! But the SEC has other plans. 😄 

Last Monday, the SEC has issued an investor alert: an advisory vs 10 cryptocurrency exchange.

By Tuesday, the internet service providers blocked the websites of these exchanges.

An angry online mob descended upon the pages of BitPInas, the SEC, and the exchanges and accusations have been hurled here and there. We have documented everything on BitPinas (including the increase in search interest for the blocked exchanges).

This week, we’ll have more follow up stories in relation to the blocking, which is our main topic in today’s newsletter.

💡 Interesting Fact: I noted in a tweet that the language used by the SEC is much more stern than the previously issued advisory vs the likes of OctaFX and Binance. You can check it out here.

💡 Philippines SEC Blocks Access to Bitget, OKX, 8 Other Crypto Exchanges

SEC has issued a fresh warning against a number of unregistered cryptocurrency platforms, saying they are actively targeting Filipino users without the necessary licenses and exposing investors to significant risk.

The exchanges are the following:

1. OKX

2. Bybit

3. MEXC

4. KuCoin

5. Bitget

6. Phemex

7. CoinEx

8. BitMart

9. Poloniex

10. Kraken

The SEC emphasized that the list is not exhaustive, and any platform operating without proper registration is subject to enforcement action.

The SEC said these platforms pose high risks for money laundering.
